AlAbboud's inspiration for Flower Power came from the common use of potpourri and candles for interior fragrances. However, she wanted to bring the timeless beauty and fragrance of flowers into the mix, but with a twist. The result is a vase that not only holds flowers but also changes their colors, providing a unique and interactive experience for users.
The vase's unique properties lie in its ability to change the color of flowers. By adding a few drops of food coloring to the tubes within the vase, users can transform the color of white Pivoine flowers to match the color of the tube. This allows for a myriad of different results, depending on the user's experimentations.
Flower Power is composed of three parts: a 20mm thick black Corian stone base with 100 engraved holes, 50 anodized aluminum tubes in seven rainbow colors of varying heights, and a clear acrylic surrounding box. The vase's total dimensions are W200 mm x D200 mm x H250 mm, making it a compact yet impactful addition to any interior.
The vase's design process involved extensive research and experimentation. AlAbboud tested different types of natural and artificial flowers with various colors to determine the best combinations. The final product uses the best color types with the most reactive natural flower.
The main challenge during the design process was finding the best type of flower that reacted quickly and effectively to the colors. After numerous experiments, AlAbboud found that Pivoine flowers had the strongest and most visually appealing reaction. The Flower Power vase is a testament to AlAbboud's innovative approach to design, combining aesthetics, functionality, and user interaction in a single product.
Flower Power has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2017. The award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements. With its unique properties and engaging user experience, Flower Power certainly fits the bill.
